Jose Sa - 6

Didn’t have too much to do until the latter stages of the second half. No chance with goal, couple of nervous passing moments.

Kieran Trippier - 4

Really poor day for Trippier. Looked miles off it going forward, gave the ball away too many times, delivery was woeful and was easily beaten by Conway for the cross that led to the winner.

Toughest game of the season?

Yes I think Middlesbrough (away) could well be!

These are the games that could bear great significance come the end of the season.

Make no mistake, these are two sides with eyes on automatic promotion.

And in an ideal world, Cesar Peixoto would have hoped for a full strength squad to choose from.

Middlesbrough reporter Dominic Shaw believes Wolves will win the Championship title this season – despite the impressive start made by his own side and the emergence of Boro striker Will Lankshear.

The Northern Echo journalist tipped Wolves to finish top and Boro second before a ball was kicked and, despite the early twists and turns of the campaign, sees little reason to change his mind.

“Wolves and Boro were my top two, Wolves to win the league and Boro to finish second before a ball was kicked this season,” Shaw explained.

The extended international break will end this week and Wolves’ attention will be on a huge Championship clash at Middlesbrough.

An injury to Fer Lopez and Ladislav Krejci’s suspension mean Wolves’ 10 international players have now finished games for their country and will start to report back to Compton.

But who has finished the three-week break as Wolves’ international winners and losers?

Bertrand Traore may be 31, but Wolves haven’t simply signed an experienced winger coming towards the end of his career.

They’ve signed a player with a serious football education.

Chelsea. Ajax. Lyon. Aston Villa. Villarreal. European football. Premier League football. Almost 100 caps for Burkina Faso.

And according to Sunderland Echo senior football journalist James Copley, that experience – combined with the ability Traore still possesses – should make him a major weapon in the Championship.

Towards the end of last season, head coach Rob Edwards made it very clear he had given up on many of his Wolves players.

The former Wolves defender was laying the foundations for a summer overhaul by publicly - and emotionally - criticising his squad.

One of his biggest outbursts came following the 3-0 defeat to Brighton on May 9, where Wolves conceded twice in the opening five minutes and put in a dreadful performance.

Edwards was incredibly angry in his post match press conference and targeted the players directly, as well as snapping at one journalist from a national newspaper that Edwards had not dealt with regularly in the Wolves job.

“We’re bottom of the league, it’s been embarrassing,” Edwards said.

Let Adam Armstrong face the goal: this is where Wolves unlock their forward.

Armstrong’s best moment this season came at Preston. He received the ball, carried it inside, exchanged passes with Raúl Jiménez and finished a lovely team move.

There was movement, a teammate to combine with and an opportunity to attack the goal. It offered a compelling argument for how Wolves should use him: as a forward operating close to another striker, with freedom to attack the channels and arrive centrally.

September started with a 4-2 defeat at West Ham but will end during the international break off the back of a huge Black Country derby victory.

The general feeling of Cesar Peixoto’s side has fluctuated throughout the month, but back-to-back 1-0 Championship wins leave Wolves in a strong position to attack October.

In our first ‘Wolves State Of Play’ article, we take a look at September and what we learned about this team.

Wolves fans believe they’re going up. They’re far less certain what happens when they get there!

That was the clearest finding from ten polls I ran over the international break. Asked where Wolves will finish this season, 53% went for automatic promotion and another 42% picked the play-offs. Only 5% thought they would miss out on the top eight.

Then came the question about Fosun. Could Wolves, under their current owners, get back to top-half Premier League finishes and European football? 79% strongly said ‘no’.

Jose Sa - 6.5

For as big as this game was, Jose Sa will not have a quieter afternoon in goal. Hardly anything to do - could have set-up a hammock in between the sticks.

Kieran Trippier - 8

His first 90 minutes in a Wolves shirt and boy were they worth the wait. Oozed class throughout, his distribution and delivery were sublime, worked brilliantly with Rodrigo Gomes down the right.

It’s an absolutely massive game for Wolves, make no mistake this result will go a long way to making or breaking a season.

It’s been 14 years since the two sides met at Molineux with fans.

That’s a long time to wait for three precious points and Cesar Peixoto’s XI will be crucial.

And he’ll have to do it without Raul Jimenez who will not play on Sunday, despite the knee injury being better than first feared.

The Black Country derby is one of the fiercest in the land.

The fact that the two clubs have not faced each other regularly - just three times in more than a decade - only adds to the anticipation for what is a huge game on Sunday.

As two of the 12 clubs that founded the Football League, the rivalry between Wolves and West Brom is steeped in history.

Joao Virginia - 8.5

A quite superb debut for Virginia. Looked composed and commanded his box well. Claimed crosses comfortably, came off his line to smother a Barry chance before producing the save of the season.

Question: Who wants this game?

Answer: Absolutely no one!

The timing could not be worse with a huge Black Country derby on Saturday and the main focus will of course be on that game.

Cesar Peixoto is set to make a substantial number of changes with many regular first team regulars expected to be on the bench and in some cases, not in the travelling squad at all.

The game does present an opportunity for those who have had limited minutes this season to make a big impact against Premier League opposition.

I’ve gone for 8 changes from the side that beat Sheffield United on Sunday.

Jose Sa - 5.5

Signed a new contract and got his first clean sheet of the season. Didn’t have a lot to do in terms of saves, but his handling at set-pieces and the way he goes to ground constantly always leave you petrified.

Wolves will be looking to get back to winning ways following the loss at West Ham and the draw at Birmingham City.

It’s early days but Cesar Peixoto’s men have ground to make up over fellow promotion hopefuls and with a huge Black Country derby on the horizon, a win would be very welcome indeed.

In terms of changes, the big question is, will Jordan James finally get his full league debut?

Jose Sa - 5

After signing a new deal, Sa had a mixed afternoon. Couldn’t do anything with the two goals, but still struggling to command his box with any authority. Big save in 95th min.

Wolves suffered their first defeat of the season at West Ham United and will be looking to bounce straight back and pick up all three points at St Andrews.

Many fans will be expecting multiple changes from Cesar Peixoto, but don’t be surprised if the head coach sticks with the majority of the same players here.
