Tawanda Chirewa is ‘ready to kick on’ in a Wolves shirt after his matchwinning moment at Burnley.
At a time when Wolves have six senior players out injured, the 23-year-old took his rare opportunity for minutes to score seconds after coming on at Turf Moor, sealing a 2-1 win.
It was Chirewa’s first senior goal, in his 18th Wolves appearance, to mark a huge step forward for the Zimbabwe international.
“100 per cent,” Chirewa said when asked if it is a big moment in his career.
“I’ve been here for four years now and I’ve been waiting for these moments to come.
“In a new season with a new manager, I knew this would be my moment to really help this team get back to the Premier League.
“I haven’t been in the team since the first game, but I’ve been building and building and it was a big moment with our two strikers injured.
“I’m ready to kick on and I’m focused on Tuesday now, I want to help this team to go up. That’s my main focus.”
Raul Jimenez and Adam Armstrong were two of the players unavailable for the game, and Chirewa came on to play as a striker in the second half, a position he played during pre-season.
“They’re big players for us, but I know what I can do,” he added.
“I’m willing to do whatever the manager wants me to do.
“If it’s me I’m 100 per cent ready and I’ll take it with both hands.”
On scoring just seconds after coming on, Chirewa said: “There was no time to think, to be fair!
“I got on the pitch and the chance was there.
“It feels good as a player to come on the pitch and have a big moment straight away, and I’m happy with the win.
“I was just praying the ball went in the goal and when I saw it drop in, it was a great moment for me and the team.”
Overall, Wolves struggled in the first half but put in a much better second half performance to complete the comeback victory.
Chirewa said: “At half-time the manager came in and it wasn’t the case that we didn’t perform in the first half, we just tweaked a few things in our press.
“We knew we could have them and in the second half we raised it a bit more.
“It’s a big day for the team, and it was a good win to get back our momentum.
“Everyone is happy about it.”
