The head coach replaced Rob Edwards in the summer, as plans for a squad overhaul were ripped up and Peixoto decided to keep many players from last season.
Arriving at a struggling club following a dreadful campaign, Peixoto says he was pleasantly surprised at the attitude of the squad.
When asked if he was surprised at the players’ spirit following relegation, Peixoto said: "Yeah, normally when you are relegated it's very difficult the first moments and it's happening in the club and happening with the players because the players don't want to be relegated for sure.
"But I found a group of players who want to work hard to improve, to do the things in the right way, not like they did in the past.
"This is a positive surprise for me when I arrived and I started to work with them because I feel since the first moment the players listened and want to learn what I want for the team and want to build the team the way I want to play with the ball and without the ball.
"This is a good surprise for me because of that. I said I'm surprised because maybe when the club and the players are relegated they stay with more doubts about the work but I don't feel that.
"I feel the players want a lot to work hard to improve and win games.
"I think the positive environment helps also the players to put their quality outside of the pitch. But I think they have more quality than they showed in the past. For me it's clear.”
Peixoto’s target is to get Wolves promoted back to the Premier League and to do that he watched tapes of last season’s promotion winners.
“I like a lot the mentality, the culture of English football, the people, the club,” he added.
“All the people receive me very, very well and I analysed a lot of the games and a lot of championships, the teams who fight and get promoted the Premier League.
“I try to, before I come, see and feel, understand what is the Championship.
“It’s football, different characteristics but we have to adapt our idea of the game in some moments to be competitive in all the games.
“But I’m happy with the experience and I’m surprised because only the way the players work, they work very hard.
“I find a group of players with quality and with a lot of capacity to work hard, to go in the right way, want a lot to win, to do things in the right way, to fight to the three points.
“We try to change the mentality, we try to build an identity and I think we go now in the right way but we have a lot of work to do.”
