Mateus Mane has had an incredible rise into the Wolves first team, but he may never have worn the club’s colours if not for a remarkable moment of fate.
The teenager made his senior debut off the bench on May 10, 2025, under Vitor Pereira and he was backed to do big things, but found his opportunities under the Portuguese coach hard to come by.
Despite that, he signed his first professional deal that summer at the age of 17, which was then extended when he turned 18 in September 2025, meaning he has a contract with Wolves until 2029.
It was not until Rob Edwards was appointed last season that Mane was given a chance to shine and in a campaign that ended in a disastrous relegation, Mane’s performances were one of few bright lights.
It is understood Mane, alongside a number of members of the squad, were surprised by Edwards’ sacking this summer - but Wolves have since gone on to have a good start to the Championship season under new boss Cesar Peixoto and Mane has been a regular starter in that time.
