The loan signing from Rennes, who can join permanently next summer for a total package of £10million, has 130 Championship appearances under his belt at just 22-years-old.
Considering the lack of Championship experience among many of the players and Peixoto himself, the head coach is pleased to have added some nous to his ranks.
“I think it’s very important because you need to adapt fast to the Championship,” he said.
“He has to take time to get fit to play and understand our idea of the game, but he’s a player who I can put in the pitch and they know all the environment in the Championship, all the games. It’s important we have this kind of player.
“Homegrown is important for us also and I think he’s a player who’s going to improve and help us to have a great season.
“We play with three midfielders and the right position for him is a number eight, going box to box.
“But he can play as a six, he can play in other positions. I think in our structure, in our idea of the game, the right position for him is a number eight.”
To play in that number eight position James will need to oust Marshall Munetsi, who has started in that midfield slot after playing a key role in pre-season.
James does have a goalscoring touch playing to his advantage after netting 11 times from midfield while on loan at Leicester last season.
Peixoto is delighted with the competition in the middle of the park and the options at his disposal.
“I want two players to fight for every position and be more competitive during the week and in the games, with different characteristics to improve the team,” Peixoto said.
“If I see when we analyse the opponent team, I can manage that characteristic to try to play the player who’s going to put the team more competitive in the game.
“We manage the situation in terms of all the players, the XI players to start, but we have to think also the players staying on the bench to have impact in the game when we need.
“I think it’s important also to look at individual characteristics to help the team in some moments of the game, to improve and do the right substitutions or the right starting XI to stay more competitive in that game.”
