A strong performance eventually paid off with a second half Fer Lopez goal, following a high press that resulted in a mistake from Albion defender Nathaniel Phillips.
The head coach was pleased with the way in which his players carried out the tactical plan - and a small tweak at half-time - while he also praised their bravery and how they attacked the fixture.
“We know how to press high,” Peixoto said.
“We know how to stay organised and press in the middle of the block. When we have to stay more deep, because sometimes the opponent team has quality, put our team deeper, we have to stay organised and all the players know what we have to do.
“In the first half, we stole a lot of balls with pressure, high pressure.
“At half-time, I corrected a little thing with our winger and we scored like that. I’m happy with that and the players believe, put in a lot of effort.
“I think we play with courage. The players are brave in the duel, in the first ball, in the second ball.
“When we have to press, we press. When we have to close, the team close.
“When we play, I think we can score more goals.”
Peixoto and his players quashed any concerns that they would not understand what the derby meant, as the team played at a high intensity and the head coach was animated on the touchline and passionate in his celebration at full-time.
“It’s my way of living the games, the players know how I live,” Peixoto said.
“They have their characteristics to play, I have my characteristics on the bench. I’m very enthusiastic in the games.
“But I think all the environment, all the supporters, the way they supported us today in the game, the way we play today, the way we press high, the way we try to score and win the game, it’s normal.
“I’m happy with the game and I play the game outside on the bench to try to help the players and put good energy into them to win the game.”
He added: “We rest, but happy, it’s better than when we don’t win. In this kind of game, the win is more important.
“It’s only three points. We have to stay with our feet on the floor and work hard like we worked before.
“When we draw or lose, everything is not bad. When we win, like we won today, we compete well, we play well, but everything is not good.
“We have to stay with the mental stability and work hard until the end.”
