The goalkeeper was set to leave this summer and was attracting interest from Turkish side Besiktas, amongst other clubs, but will now stay for the Championship campaign.
He was in the final year of his deal but has now penned fresh terms, which will undoubtedly protect the club’s financial asset, but also ensure Sa is paid well in the second tier.
Technical director Matt Jackson said: “Jose has proved his level during his time at the club. He’s an international goalkeeper and is a big character in our dressing room, so is a huge asset for the football club.
“When a player is in the final year of his contract, it can be difficult for some. I don’t think Jose is necessarily one of those because he’s mentally tough and has seen everything in football, but he deserves a reward and the security it brings.
“This brings stability. We knew that we would be revamping the goalkeeping department and we really like how it’s ended up. It’s given Dan an opportunity to leave permanently and Sam desperately needed to play and has gone to a massive football club. Now we’ve got three really good, professional goalkeepers to a proven standard which we can build around this season.”

I think in this case it is better the devil you know. Whilst it would have been good to freshen up the team with a new number 1, I am not convinced that the hierarchy would recruit a quality replacement, so providing his attitude and body language improve, I am fairly happy to have Sa in goal.
