Sunday’s 4-2 defeat to Bristol City saw Wolves drop to seventh in the 12-team league, with seven points from their opening six matches.
It still marks a solid start for a promoted club, and although the team has faced challenges, they have also adapted well to the rigours of the second tier.
When asked if the WSL2 is what Wolves expected, McNamara said: “I think it’s tough.
“Everyone dreams of being involved in professional football, and everyone thinks ‘it’s good, it’s in the daytime, and you get all this time’, but it isn’t. I can assure you it isn’t.
“It’s been really tough mentally and physically on the girls. It is a big ask.
“We would have liked to have taken another couple of points, but it is what it is.
“If we can quickly learn from these little small margins that we keep getting punished for, then I think we can definitely add more over the next few weeks.
“I know a lot of people say post-Christmas, promoted clubs really come into their own and you can really see them then adapted to the league.
“Well, I want it to happen now. I want us to keep learning every week, and the next target is to get double points. We want to get double figures on the board.
“Can we get to 10, 11? And that will stand us in really good stead going into the Christmas period.
“It’s exciting, I’m really pleased with what I’ve seen so far, but there’s a long way to go.
“We knew we’re expected to be in mid-table, and we want to be a team that can still go away and cause a few shocks and a few upsets.
“So, we’re probably where we felt we would be.
“I’ve got a lot of belief in these girls. I know a lot of them have deserved this opportunity for a long, long time. So, they’re finally shining on the stage. They belong.
“We’re in a good place, and the next target is to try and get double figures on the board.
“We can do that prior to Christmas, which I’m expecting us to do. Then, we’ll be in a great place for the second part of the year.”
Wolves made signings with promotion in mind, but have also backed several players from last season to make the step up, and McNamara has been pleased with their application.
When asked if the players have matched or exceeded expectations, McNamara added: “I think everyone individually is going to take a varying amount of time.
“You look at what Chloe Williams has done, I think she’s arguably been our strongest player throughout the first few games with regard to being consistent with her performances. Georgia Marshall is not far behind.
“Then, other players have had some brilliant moments, but not being as consistent, which again is absolutely fine when you’re transitioning into a new league.
“Then, you’ve got your players who are just consistently at the level week in, week out and have experienced this level before.

“So, overall, I think we’re in a great place for all the players.
“There are players in there who want longer minutes, people haven’t seen the pitch as much as they would have wanted to.
“The staff is doing everything we can to correct that, but we’re not getting it wrong at the minute. We’re competitive in the games we need to be. We’re winning the games that we expect to win.
“The players have got to stay patient, keep learning, and not be too downhearted.
“I think a big thing for us this year is we can’t be too low, but we can’t be too high. “There are going to be some sustained periods of losses throughout the season, whether that’s this week or whether that’s in the future.
“We’ve got to stay level-headed. We have our target this year. Everyone knows, can we turn the dream into the norm? That is all we have to do this year to be successful at this level.
“We’ve made a great start in doing that. So, we’ll continue to remain focused, work hard, and see where we can get to.”
