The 19-year-old netted Wolves’ second at Sheffield Wednesday to round off an impressive senior bow for the club.
The centre-back also secured a clean sheet for his side and with a long Championship season ahead of Wolves, he hopes to fight his way into the team.
“100 per cent, the more I play and the more I will play well, then I will have more trust from the gaffer,” he said.
“Obviously, with a lot of games coming up this season in the Championship, it might free up some spaces.
“Hopefully I’ll get more chances and just create myself the opportunities in the future, but we’ll see.”
Olagunju got on the end of Tommy Doyle’s cross to head home, but it was his overall display that impressed more as the teenager was composed in defence.
“As you’d expect, the first 10 minutes were a bit shaky, but after that I just got a grip of it and felt good,” he added.
“Sheffield Wednesday are obviously a good side, they’ve got good players, and the striker I was up against was good physically. But we obviously back ourselves in every game of the season and just believe we’ll get the win and score.
“But the early goal helped, because we felt comfortable then. I think we felt comfortable the whole way through the match, but obviously scoring the first goal means the pressure is on them now. So we just waited, took our opportunity, and got a good second goal.”
Head coach Cesar Peixoto was also pleased with the defender’s display and believes he has the talent to play regularly in the future - as he insists he is not afraid to give young players chances.
He said: “He was important. We know Saheed because he trains with us sometimes, and tonight we gave him his opportunity. I think he did a great job and had a very good game.
“He also scored a goal, which isn’t his main job because he’s a centre-back, but it’s important for his confidence. He’s a young player, but for me age is just a number. I believe in players based on their quality and personality.
“Saheed has the ability and quality to improve. We have to keep watching him, analysing his performances and working with him, and maybe in the future he can become a first-team player.”
